While out on the last trip...

I passed the Hasting's Cutoff.

Bonus points for those of you who tell me of its significance.

The Hastings Cutoff was a trail that was used from about 1845 until about 1850, because someone else had made a route that completely avoided the desert to the west of the Great Salt Lake, which The Hastings Cutoff did not. The Salt Lake Cutoff took the place of the Hastings Cutoff because it was simply easier. The Hastings Cutoff had seven days of no water, while the Salt Lake Cutoff completely avoided the desert.
